New Teacher Round-Up ’24-25

- This semester, I teach Driver’s Ed, PE I, and Freshman Seminar. Next semester I will teach Health I, PE II, and Freshman Seminar.
- This is my 6th year teaching
- I look forward to this volleyball season and working with all the PE teachers.
- My fun fact is that I was born on Friday the 13th.
- He is the new principal.
- “This is my 25th year in education. I’ve experienced K-12, I’ve taught math, health, PE, and I coached basketball. I got into administration in 2011, and I have about 12 years of high school experience.”
- “I’m looking forward to meeting new students and trying to learn the faces and names of all 2000 of them. I’m looking forward to the extracurricular activities, there’s a lot of school spirit here. I want to attend Homecoming and other athletic events, and clubs and dramas and things of that nature. I’m looking forward to the instructional progress we plan on making as we strive to be the premier high school in Virginia.”
- “I’m the biggest Jets fan in the world and am looking forward to a great season this year.”
- She teaches Theatre levels 1-4 and Technical Theatre. She “coaches” Speech aka Forensics, and our Theatre Troupe competing in the One-Act competition. She also sponsors Improv Club.
- She has been teaching for about 9 years.

She decided to become a teacher because she was amazed by the “spark” and sparkle in their eyes that kids get when they fully understand something or are passionate about something. What she loves most about it is seeing kids take what she teaches and makes it their own, and seeing them years later and learning about all they have accomplished.
- Her favorite movie has always been The Lion King, the original animated movie. She grew up with it, and her grandpa would buy her anything and everything related to it, She just loves it. She also enjoys the movie Joker, and she is looking forward to watching the sequel.
- Ms. Eastwood is an English 9 & 10 teacher.
- She has been teaching for five years, previously in North Carolina teaching English
- She is excited to know all her students and the school.
- She loves and “adopts books.”
- “I am teaching advanced United States history and advanced American government, and one section of Freshman Seminar.”
- “This is my 6th year of teaching. I’m freshly moved to Virginia after living in and teaching in western New York.”
- “This year, I’m looking forward to teaching some new classes. I have not taught US history, so I am excited to teach the subject that is my favorite.”
- “I’ve only been living in Charlottesville for one month now. I moved here with my dog Holly who is a lab mix, and we’re trying to find a bunch of hiking trails to go on.”
- Ms. Foss is teaching Photography 1,2,3, and 4.
- She was previously a professor for three years. This is her first year teaching at Albemarle.
- She is looking forward to engaging with her students and planning fun projects with them. She is also looking forward to experimenting more with Photography.
- Ms. Foss enjoys hiking and spending time outdoors
- “I’m teaching 11 Honors English and 12 EL CoLab.”
- “So, I just started at this school last semester. This is not my first first year, but it’s my first full year. Before this, I was teaching at UVA and University of Oregon in the music departments.”
- “I’m looking forward to seeing my students. I’m looking forward to getting to know all of the kids and experiencing teaching in this new environment.”
- “I got to have lunch with Nick Kroll and we talked about flat earth Soundcloud musicians.”
1. Erin Hall is a Freshman Seminar and English 9 teacher.
2. This is her first official year teaching as she was a student teacher here at AHS last year while she was getting her masters.
3. “I’m really excited to start digging into the English content, I love English in general, and I’m looking forward to my students to learn as much as they can.” Hall said.
4. Hall goes on a nightly walk every night to help “center” herself.
- “I have four sections of advanced chemistry, so I just teach first and second block every day.”
- “I am returning to teaching. I was a chemistry teacher 15 years ago, and have a degree in chemistry, and taught chemistry. When my kids were young, I did some other work in education, and came back last year when Ms. Hagan left, and now I’m back again, doing this part time.”
- “I just really enjoy the interactions with all the classes. I just love doing, and it’s a lot of fun to be here, it’s a good environment.”
- “I’m a big Premier League fan, a Manchester City fan.”
- “So I’m a school counselor, here at Albemarle High School. There are 10 of us. I have students with the last name To-Whe, and all the AVID students.”
- “This is actually my 24th year working for the public schools and this is my first year at Albemarle High School, it is my second year at Albemarle County, last year I was actually at Greer Elementary. I also have my administrative certification and last I was the assistant principal intern at Greer.”
- “This is my first time working in a high school, I’ve worked with high school students but just not in the school. I really am someone who loves to learn, and I’m learning a lot already. There’s a lot of details with high school graduation requirements, college applications, and I’m learning a lot about that. I think that I’m just really excited to learn this whole process and be able to help students reach their goals.”
- “We enjoy everything that Virginia offers, so we love the hiking trails,and just being outside in Virginia, music festivals, just spending time in restaurants in the Charlottesville area.”
- “I teach Algebra 1 and Algebra 3 this year”
- “This is my eighth year teaching. I taught at AHS in 2021-2023, left for a year, then returned! Last year I taught at a farm school where I taught math, horseback riding, canoeing, hiking, etc…”
- “I’m looking forward to teaching Algebra 3, as it is my first time as a teacher teaching this specific course.”
- “I love horseback riding and anything outdoors!”
- “This year I’m teaching World History 1 Advanced, and then World History 1 Honors.
- “I’ve been teaching now for 10 years. I’ve taught in different countries, in the Philippines, in Thailand, Taiwan, and now here in Virginia.”
- “This year, I think my biggest goal is to just understand the public school system. Learning the public school way of teaching, that’s very different teaching from an international perspective, a private school perspective. I think there are a lot of good opportunities to be here in public school but it is more challenging, so I want to be able to learn how to help future teachers, other teachers with adjusting if they want to be in the public school system.”
- “A new hobby I have been enjoying learning is grilling, Grilling ribs, pork chops, and salmon. A fun fact about me is that for the most part I like to be active, whether that’s running a mile every morning, or if I don’t run a mile I try to lift weights in the afternoon or at least play basketball, or soccer, or golf.”
- Ms. Pavlicek is an ecology and biology teacher.
- This is her eighth year teaching. She’s taught at Henley and at Florida for a few years.
- She is looking forward to knowing Albemarle High School and the culture surrounding the school
- Her husband and she love to go on hikes and bike together. She loves to garden at home and has a pet gecko.
1. John Rademacher is a German teacher here at AHS, he teaches German 1,2,3.
2. This is his second year teaching, first at Albemarle.
3. “I’m looking forward to getting to know all my students, because this is my first year teaching”
4. Rademacher not only is a German teacher during the day, but after school and on the weekends he is a stand up comedian.
1. “This year, I am CoLab teaching in English 12, geometry, and US history.”
2. “This is my first year as a CoLab teaching at Albemarle, but last year I was in the tutoring program and was here for almost the entire year.”
3. “I’m looking forward to spending more time in the classroom with my students. When I was tutoring, I feel like I was more in and out and jumping to different students more often, so I like the fact that I get to see the same students every single day and get to build more of a relationship with them and get to know them better.”
4. “I’m taking woodworking classes.”
- “I collaborate with teachers, and help them find resources to work with students.”
- “I used to be an elementary school librarian, and I also did a program before that called the Scholars Program, which is kind of like AVID. I also taught at a high school in New York City, and most recently I taught creative writing at Henley.”
- “I’m looking forward to getting to know the students and teachers, and finding my way around AHS.”
- “I like to write fiction, it’s my number one passion. I also make clothes for my furniture, like slipcovers.”
- “I am teaching biology and ecology.”
- “This is my 24th year teaching, but my first year teaching complete science.”
- “I’m excited to take the curriculum and develop it. I’ve spent time on the other side of things, and I’m looking forward to using the tools I’ve used to teach other teachers and build relationships with students, and just being back in the classroom.”
- “I travel immensely; I’ve visited all 50 states. I go scuba diving, I’ve jumped out of planes, this past summer I packed up my Subaru, put a bed in the back of it, and drove from Virginia to California and back. It was very freeing and intriguing to see different parts of the world, so seeing the Midwest was very eye opening.”
- “I am serving English Learner students.”
- “I taught English and history for five years, and this is my second year in counseling.”
- “This is a new place and a new state; I used to live in Idaho, and was a counselor at Meridian High School. I’m excited to get to know my students and colleagues.”
- “I used to be a football coach. I also like to fish, Idaho was a big outdoorsy place. I like being outside in the mountains, rivers, and backpacking.”
