“We moved here in 2014 because of my dad — he worked as a translator for the U.S. military in Afghanistan. So he got us all to come to America because of that. [I’ve been here] almost 11 years, most of my life.
It sucks because I have glimpses of remembering my life in Afghanistan. The thing is, I was so young, I don’t even remember that much, but I what I miss most is my family. In Afghanistan, we had this park, this huge garden — it was so beautiful — and we would go on picnics there. Just the feeling of having your grandparents there, your uncles and your aunts, everyone being together — that was a great feeling.
Honestly, I would do anything to get that back. We’re all in different countries now. My family is in Germany, Canada and the U.S., so we’re all in different places and it’s hard to bring that back.”
