Players to watch this winter sport season.

Sophomore Keturah “KK” Barbour, the guard and forward/center. Barbour made the v-squad as a freshman last year. “Some goals I have are to become a beast in the paint,” Barbour said. Barbour was named MVP at the banquet last year. KK is known for keeping her team motivated, and bringing a lot of energy to the team.

Senior Logan Ford, point guard for the boy’s varsity basketball. “A goal I set for myself is to step up and be a leader of the team and also to lead by example for the younger players.” Ford said. Ford hopes to give his teammates an opportunity to score.

Junior Hannah Harper holds the school record in the 100m butterfly and the 200 Individual Medley. Harper feels she has a lot of team spirit and encourages all of her fellow swimmers to race hard. “By my senior year I would like to win a state title and help my team succeed,” Harper said.

Senior Matt Lockman is the school record holder in the 50m and 100m freestyle. He shares the school record in the 200m medley relay record with Chase Robbins, Tim Webb, and Stephen Topping. “I try to lead by example and get everyone pumped up to swim fast,” Lockman said.

Senior Casey Russell, a pole-vaulter on the indoor track team. Russell was All State last year during the indoor, outdoor state track meet. Russell hopes to be able to clear the 10’ 6’’ bar by the end of the season. “This year, I would like to qualify for States early on in the season and I want to be All State again,” Russell said.

Junior Lester Hernandez is the 106 lb. varsity wrestler. Hernandez has the fastest pin in school history (15 seconds). Hernandez hopes to be the district champion and to go on to states. “I bring to the team good leadership, experience, technique, good hustle and determination, positive attitude, the drive to win, and hard alloy called guts,” Hernandez said.
