Review of the Arby’s Chicago-Style Beef Dip

Milo Penzell, Staff Reporter, Arbys specialist

If you’re thinking that Arby’s is trying for a quick cash grab by throwing a few peppers on a french dip sandwich, you’d be correct. Introduced with the big cities sandwich pack , the Chicago-style Beef Dip sandwich is  Arby’s classic roast beef, Swiss cheese, and various peppers settled on top a sub roll, served with a cup of au jus.

  • Taste

For the most part, the Chicago-style Beef Dip sandwich is a familiar roast beef sub taste but with a few extra toppings with a nice meaty sauce. Though the banana peppers add a noticeable zing and go well with the Au Jus, the roasted peppers and “Italian” seasoning seem like indifferent filler to your palate. The bread, being the same as the french dip, is a airy and fairly dry sub loaf, which is great for dipping in the Au Jus.

  • Presentation

Like most fast food, your aren’t going to get the perfect, advertising-friendly sandwich from the pictures. It comes in the standard brown Arby’s sub box, but because of the sandwich’s size and askew placement, it looks a little lonely,as if you should fit a little more to fill up the real estate. The sandwich itself does pop out because of its eye-catching yellows and reds from the peppers which lends it a little more character from its other meaty brethren.

  • Price

Coming in at $5.59,  $1.10 more than the French dip sandwich, is fairly pricey for a fast food sandwich. If you are a banana pepper fanatic and are willing to pay extra for a slight zing, I would go for it. The extra expense isn’t really worth it for me, and, honestly, I would prefer to skip the needless filler and just get the extremely similar French dip and Swiss sandwich.
