Kwame Alexander, best selling American author and winner of the John Newbery Medal, will be visiting Albemarle High School this Friday, Oct. 5 during C block.

“He is essentially a celebrity of the literary world,” librarian Erica Thorsen said.

As a speaker and an educator as well as an author, Alexander is currently on a tour previewing his new book, Swing, which highlights a “lyrical story about hope, courage, and love that will speak to anyone who’s struggled to find their voice.”

“I’ve seen him speak at different writing events, and he is charismatic, extroverted, engaging and enthusiastic,” creative writing teacher Charlotte Wood said. “He’s absolutely amazing, and he always gives inspiring talks that you will never forget.”

To have a chance to see Alexander speak, check to see if your C-block teacher has signed up your class to go. If your C-block teacher has not signed your class up, ask librarians Thorsen or Jason Ver Planck for a permission form. Forms will be due Wednesday, Oct. 3.
