Upcoming Events for Hispanic Heritage Month

Hispanic Heritage Month kicks off with a dance in the breezeway with music by DJ Brian.

AHS is celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month from Sept. 15- Oct. 15. There are a variety of exciting events coming up that you don’t want to miss.

The Hispanic Heritage Dance

Friday 9/22, 6:00- 9:00 pm, AHS lower cafeteria

The theme is “La Noche de Fogata,” which means Bonfire Night. There is no paid entry. The UVA Salsa Team Fuego will be giving lessons during the dance from 6-7. There will be free drinks and snacks along with s’mores. The rest of the night there’ll be music provided by DJ Brian from 7-9.  

Soccer Tournament

Tuesday 9/26, 4:30 p.m.

The intramural soccer coach Guillerano Guerra will be hosting a soccer tournament in the Gym. You must meet with him in teams of five in order to be placed in the bracket. There is no cost to sign up. Be sure to sign up before Tuesday 9/26. There will be a prize for the winner. 

Latinx Tailgate

Friday 9/29, 4:00 p.m.

The tailgate will be held after school in the Senior Lot. It’ll be hosted by the Latinx Club, come for food and other activities. 

Empanadas Festival

Wednesday 10/4

There will be empanadas in the library throughout both lunch periods. Alongside empanadas, there will be paletas (popsicles) from La Flor Michoacana. 

Art Contest Exhibition

Thursday 10/12, in the library during lunch

The contest is about door decorating and the person who decorates the best-looking door will win a prize! 

College Day

Friday 10/13, 11:15 am-12:45 pm

College Day will be a day for Spanish speakers to find out more about colleges. The Latinx mentorship program will be there to assist students. 

Latinx Health Fair

Saturday 10/14, 12:00 -4:00 pm

The Latinx Health Fair will be hosted at AHS.

El Family Night

Wednesday 10/18, 5:00-6:30pm, at AHS

El Family Night offers Language Support for families during parent conferences.
